Understanding Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a health care specialty utilizing conservative noninvasive care to correct and prevent injuries and disease without the use of drugs or surgery. Doctors of Chiropractic have had intensive training and education quite similar to medical education, although chiropractic education emphasizes subjects of the neuromusculoskeletal system and physiology.
Chiropractic health care encourages patients to partner with their doctors to monitor progress and establish a treatment plan best suited to their specific condition, allowing the patient to continue care as long as they desire.
The doctors of Rosewood Chiropractic Clinic prefer to treat patients in all aspects of their lives including nutrition, exercise and wellness promotion in addition to spinal adjustments and manipulation. Our clinic thrives to empower patients with the knowledge to make correct health choices.

Our Office
On your first visit to our office, please come 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork. Our intake forms are found on this site under “Online Forms.”
Please bring your insurance card and any medical reports (including x-rays and radiology reports) and information related to your current chief complaint(s). The doctors will discuss your complaint(s) with you and take an extensive health history. The doctors will then proceed with a thorough physical examination including orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic based exams.
After all examinations are completed, the doctors will will discuss your options with you including treatment as well as possible further testing, imaging or referral to a specialist, if indicated. If clinically indicated, the doctors will then proceed with treatment including but not limited to manual adjustments, manual therapy, massage and electrotherapy including ultrasound and electrical stimulation. During the course of the history, examinations or treatment, the doctors will discuss with you any of your health concerns or at-home instructions.
Although we seldom pursue extended, long term treatment, a few closely dated appointments will help to immediately address your aches and pains, while follow-up treatments could be pursued for stabilization as well a preventative care. We will create a treatment plan that is as unique as you are.

We accept most insurance plans, however, you should check your chiropractic benefits with your specific insurance group. Some of the insurance we accept include: Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Healthlink, and GHP. We also accept personal injury, Motor Vehicle Accident and worker’s compensation cases.

Our office specializes in wellness care and neuromusculoskeletal complaints including:headaches, chronic pain, sciatica, low back pain and stiff neck as well as patients with spinal disc conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, tendonitis and sprain/strains.
We also treat worker’s compensation, personal injury cases and motor vehicle accidents.
Our office specializes in manual spinal and extremity adjustments and manipulation. We also have the capacity to use ancillary therapeutics such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, cryotherapy and hot packs if clinically indicated. We also offer mechanical traction and nutrition counseling as well as exercise and wellness promotion.
Dr. Dykeman
Born and raised in Alton Illinois, Dr. Andy Dykeman received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1990. After graduating from SIUE, he toured the United States in a successful rock band and released numerous recordings. In 1997, he began work at the Nashville Medical Examiners Office as a Forensic Technician/Pathology Assistant, completing technical aspects of postmortem examinations and assisting in forensic autopsies while completing pre-med requirements at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Upon completion of his classes at Belmont in 2000, he moved back to the St. Louis/Alton area and was accepted to attend Logan College of Chiropractic. He received a Bachelors of Science in Human Biology in 2001 and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2003.
Dr. Dykeman has served in various capacities as a leader in his profession as well as the community. Previously, Dr. Dykeman served as Vice President of the Illinois Chiropractic Society and Alternate Delegate of Illinois for the American Chiropractic Association. Dr. Dykeman also served on the Madison County Health Department Advisory Committee and currently maintains membership in the American Chiropractic Association, Missouri State Chiropractic Association and the Illinois Chiropractic Society.
When not taking care of patients, Dr. Dykeman spends his time on walks with his wife Jennifer and their lovely little dog, Sofi. He is also an accomplished painter and writer.

What conditions do chiropractors treat?
Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) care for patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. DCs are especially well known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain and headaches as well as patients with injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, involving the muscles, ligaments and joints. The benefits of chiropractic care extend to general health issues, as well, since our body structure affects our overall function. DCs also counsel patients on diet, nutrition, exercise, healthy habits, and occupational and lifestyle modification.
Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small.
Do insurance plans cover chiropractic?

What type of education and training do chiropractors have?
Doctors of chiropractic are educated as primary-contact health care providers, with an emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the musculoskeletal system (the muscles, ligaments and joints of the spine and extremities) and the nerves that supply them. Educational requirements for doctors of chiropractic are among the most stringent of any of the health care professions.
How is a chiropractic adjustment performed?
Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during the doctor of chiropractic’s intensive years of chiropractic education. The chiropractic physician typically uses his hands to manipulate the joints of the body in order to restore or enhance joint function. This often helps resolve joint inflammation and reduces the patient's pain.
Is chiropractic treatment ongoing?
The hands-on nature of the chiropractic treatment is essentially what requires patients to visit the chiropractor a number of times. A chiropractor may provide acute, chronic, and/or preventive care thus making a certain number of visits sometimes necessary. Your doctor of chiropractic should tell you the extent of treatment recommended and how long you can expect it to last.
